Here's an update from last Saturdays moon event.
The day started with Cosmodome planetarium shows in the library for a few hours in the morning and this was well attended with some full shows and people were very happy.
In the evening we came together to present the winner of the Moon Photo competition and this was awarded to David Knight - congratulations. David wins a voucher for a photo enlargement thanks to Kodak Levin. We made a draw for a second prize and this was won by Helen Rock. It was a tough decision for the judges as there were some really nice entries showing great talent.
We also announced the beginning of our telescope loan project in association with the library. Very soon library members will be able to borrow the telescope from the library, a great way to get started. Thanks to the menz shed we also have a nicely constructed box to house the scope. Cosmodome have donated the cost of this to the project.
Planetarium shows ran again in the evening and again these were well attended with people of all ages. Meanwhile, outside we had a cloudy night but fortunately we could still see the Moon! So it worked out well. By the end of the night the telescope operators had just about lost their toes in the cold but that just shows the pure dedication to the cause. Frank Andrews even came all the way from Wellington as did Mike Stapel just to be with us and it proved well worth it for them with over a hundred people in attendence.
So a big thank you to all of those that came and especially those that made it happen. It was great to work with the library and we look forward to doing it again.
See you all next time
