Transits of Mercury......Don't get too excited

Hi All

After the success of our Transit of Venus activities I started to think about a Transit of Mercury.
Started looking around the internet but what I found is not good for any of us except our younger members.
The next Transit of Mercury visible from New Zealand is not until the year 2052.
Shame cos the Transit of Venus was great fun and very successful.

Transits of Mercury can only occur in May or November.
The first transit of Mercury in the 21st century occurred in May 2003.
The second on 9 November 2006 was fully visible from New Zealand and much of the Pacific Basin.

2016 May 10 - Not visible from New Zealand
2019 November 12 - Final stages visible from New Zealand
2032 November 13 - Starts near sunset in New Zealand
2039 November 7th - Not visible from New Zealand
2049 November 8th - Not visible from New Zealand
2052 November 9th - Fully visible from New Zealand
2062 May 11 - 2nd part visible from New Zealand
2065 November 12th - Fully visible from New Zealand, starts just after sunrise

Oh well could have been a good idea

Regards Simon
