HASI would like to invite you all to a special night of observing.
On April 15th 2014 there shall be a total lunar eclipse. The Full Moon will rise above the Tararua Ranges at sunset already partially eclipsed. At 7.06 p.m., the moon will become fully eclipsed and will remain in the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow, the umbra, until 8.24 p.m. The last part of the moon will exit the umbra at 9.33 p.m.
We shall have telescopes available for members of the public to view this spectacular event. We shall be meeting at the Adventure Park in Levin and the evening kicks off at 6.30pm.
As if that weren't enough, we shall also be observing Jupiter and Mars as both are currently placed favourably in the sky.
